Basic Rules

We’ll be using the Hero System 5th Edtion rules. Based on my initial reading of the new rules set, I expect there will be more than a few interpretations, modifications, and outright changes. (No surprise there.)

Do you want to use Hero System 5th Edition, or Hero System 5th Edition Revised Edition? The plain-vanilla 5th, because that’s the book you have? What book does Dave have?

5th Edition is what I have to hand.

At some point, I might pick up Revised, but until I have a better idea of what the revisions are, I have to impetus to do so. The 4th Edtion is close enough, from what I’ve seen, for folks to transfer characters from one to the other and preserve basic functionality.

From what I can tell, many of the changes from 4th to 5th are Mr. Long trying to be a specific as possible about everything. If I wanted that level of specificity from a game system, I’d be playing GURPS. 🙂 Since I’ve never had any particular reason to follow dictates of the designer in my games, I’m confortable using any of the HSR Editions as a basis for discussion.

I have 4th edition and 5th edition revised. I’ll bring my 5er book on Saturday so Bob can take a look at it. Boy! It should be Steven’s Longwinded rather than Steven Long… 🙂
